Guy discovered a passion for drinking real ale in the Black Country at the Beacon Hotel brewpub where the Sarah Hughes Brewery is situated. He started work behind the bar whilst studying for a BSc. in Chemistry and was always being quizzed by the brewery on all things chemical. This created his first post as a brewer and within 4 months promoted to Head Brewer. To satisfy his continuing thirst for knowledge he enrolled at the Institute of Brewing to study for a brewing diploma.
After 10 years at Sarah Hughes (earning over 100 awards) and helping numerous other breweries at weekends developing their systems and recipies, went on to set up Black Country Ales in 2004 to supply their 25 pub estate. Guy joined Stroud Brewery in early 2012.
