We have three award winning cask conditioned beers permanently available and a growing range of seasonal beers available throughout the year.
What makes Stroud Brewery beers special?
Our Malt
Stroud Brewery sources its malt from Warminster Maltings in Wiltshire, Britain’s oldest working floor maltings where malt is skilfully hand crafted using the same methods and tools employed more than 100 years ago to produce a fine skinned crispy sweet malt.
Working with Warminster, we have been able to guarantee a malt supply grown on the Cotswolds with a ‘Warranty of Origin’.
Our organic malt is grown on a farm near Cirencester.
“Brewing a local beer is one thing, but brewing it using locally grown barley really sets it apart. Cotswolds farmers produce amongst the highest quality malting barleys in the UK and our brewery together with Warminster are the links in the chain that connect local drinkers with their local farms and the characteristic landscape they create.”
Our Hops
We use whole hops supplied to us by Charles Faram , who have been established as merchants of hops and hop products for over 100 years. Charles Faram stock and sell the largest range of hops in the UK giving us a great range to choose from. Hops give beer its bitterness and contribute to its flavour and aroma to produce a well balanced beer.
Organic
Stroud Brewery currently produces one draught organic beer – Stroud Organic Ale (4.0% ABV) and its entire range of bottled beers are organic (from Jan 2009).
Organic farming is an approach to food production that recognises that our health is directly connected to the food we eat and, ultimately to the health of the soil.
It recognises the need to farm without artificial inputs, and uses crop rotations to make the soil more fertile. For example, a farmer might graze sheep on a field one year, making the soil more fertile, and then plant barley the next and so on. Organic farming does not allow the use of genetically modified crops.
Sustainability is at the core of the organic approach, and the standards we have to adhere to include not only the ingredients, but also how organic beer is made, packaged and traded.
The word organic is defined by law. Any food labelled organic must meet a strict set of standards. Look for the Soil Association symbol for your guarantee of the highest organic standards.
Waste Not
Our spent grains are quite sought after. They go to two local farms to feed their pigs and cattle. Stroud Community Agriculture is a community owned farming enterprise supplying meat and vegetables to over 180 households around Stroud. Colin has a smallholding near Frampton Mansell, where he rears Gloucester Old Spot crossed with Tamworths for sale direct to the public.
