The Magnificent Severn Ride
100 mile sponsored bike ride in aid of the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal and the Friends of Rodborough School - Saturday 11th June 2011.
Seven parents from Rodborough School are riding from the school, along and over the magnificent River Severn to Chepstow and back.
More parents and children will be joining them along the way and finishing the ride at the Prince Albert Pub with a fundraising BBQ from 5pm.
One of the parents will be riding a reproduction of the famous Pedersen Bicycle - invented by Mikael Pederson who lived in Dursley. This copy of the bicycle is being kindly lent by Philip Walters from Minchinhampton. Philip hand-made the bike based on an original Pedersen bike preserved at Stroud's Museum in the Park. During the journey The Magnificent Severn Riders will pass by Mikael Pedersen's former home in Long Street, Dursley.
To celebrate and refresh the event Stroud Brewery are creating a special Pedersen Ale to be consumed by the appreciative riders when they finally get to the Prince Albert.
To try and make sure we last the course technical support for the ride is kindly being provided by Cytek of Westward Road in Stroud.
