Job Description – Assistant Brewer

This is a full time post for an Assistant Brewer at Stroud Brewery. The successful applicant will be responsible to the Production Manager at Stroud Brewery.

Stroud Brewery is seeking an energetic, versatile individual to train for the role of Assistant Brewer.

Stroud Brewery produces premium beers using high quality ingredients. We use whole hops and Cotswold grown malting barley. We strive to be environmentally and socially sustainable as well as running a viable business. We aim to support the local economy, and do not sell any beer through supermarkets. We sell to pubs, independent retailers and directly to the public. The brewery has a growing public profile and is increasingly involved in a range of local events and activities.

Job Function:

To assist the brewers in the production of beer to finished packaged products ready for sale.

 

Main responsibilities:

Brewing

  • Brewing
  • Cleaning – vessels, casks and the premises
  • Routine maintenance of brewery equipment
  • Ensuring quality, health and safety measures are maintained
  • Database  - Data entry and information updates

 

Other tasks as required

Person Specification

This post is physically demanding. We are seeking somebody who can work well in a small team and has an eye for detail. It is a very practical environment, which involves the understanding and monitoring of a wide range of processes.

Breweries are noisy, hot (and cold), steamy places, with strong smells. Workers need to be aware at all times of the prevalent risks associated with the tasks at hand. This will involve the operation of machinery and working with hot, and sometimes caustic or acidic, liquids.

It involves climbing into vessels for cleaning through small manways (brewery yoga!)

Protective clothing, such as overalls, gloves, boots and occasionally masks and ear protectors need to be worn when and where necessary according to the relevant Health and Safety directive.

The working day will involve loading and unloading raw materials and other products and will occasionally involve working outside in all weathers. It will also involve standing for long periods. The successful candidate may be required to lift and manage heavy sacks and casks, which can weigh over 40kg. The work may not be suitable for people who are sensitive to dust.
